forgotten neighborhood - Tarlabaşı, İstanbul, Turkey 2011
Historically, Tarlabaşı was home to a large Greek population. In the 1990s, large numbers of Kurdish immigrants from eastern Turkey moved into Tarlabaşı mixing in with the local Roma population. More recently, it has become the home to many migrants from neighbouring countries and Africa.
Forgotten neighborhood, recently recalled by the present government is loosing its climate and unique atmosphere as its residents are being displaced out of it and the houses are being redeemed and renewed by rich people. Ultimately there is a plan to build a close and secured new neighborhood on its place.
